Rainforest
Into the green: a trail kit for Malaysian heat
Humidity, sudden rain and long climbs: what we have learned about carrying water in the rainforest.
A rainforest trail at 7 a.m. feels cool for exactly twenty minutes. Then the humidity arrives, and you start drinking far more than you planned. On most half-day hikes we get through a litre each.
Carry more than you think
We carry a Trail 1 L of iced water each and leave a Ridge Tumbler full of ice in the car for the drive home. Cold water at the end of a hot hike is the best reward we know.
Rain will come. Pack so that it does not matter.
Protect the base
Granite boulders and steel bottles do not get along. A silicone Bottle Boot takes the knocks, stops the clank when you set it down, and grips on wet rock.
